Green Point Piano Studio aims to provide a fun social environment for learning piano with its group piano classes.
Group classes are planned just like private lessons with the advantage of students getting to make new friends.
Group classes run for a full 1 hour so students will have their pieces already completed by the time they leave so they are free to go home and enjoy playing their piano instead of feeling like they have more homework to do.
Parents you have time to shop, pick up or drop off other children or perhaps just have a well-deserved break with a coffee from the local cafe only a 10 minute walk away.
Playing with others improves rhythm because everyone has to play together.
Children learning in a group will have improved aural skills because they learn to listen to each other.
Group piano can capture a child's attention and improve concentration.
Group class encourages friendly competition which encourages children to practice.
Students can experience things in group that they can't in private lessons such as:
Skills learned in group piano can also be useful for students who want to play in their school band or orchestra.
Why have piano lessons always been taught privately?
Private piano lessons began mostly owing to the size and cost of the piano itself. They were big and expensive which meant that teachers usually only owned one instrument.
Now thanks to modern technology and the digital piano we can teach piano in a group class just as we teach many other things such as ballet, karate, soccer and academics.
Even medical students learn in groups so why not piano?
Students attending group lessons will still learn the same as students who study privately as lessons will cover note reading, rhythm, the development of technique and theory. Improvisation, composing and sight reading will also be covered and of course we will be using off the bench activities such as games and iPads to keep it fun!
